The Boise State Broncos ability to score and defend has them on the brink of winning the Mountain West title. The Broncos have won four in a row where both ends of the floor have had a hand in the success. BSU is coming off of a 56-46 victory at San Diego State to inch closer to the regular season conference championship. A 35-22 second half erased a three point hole despite holding a slight 34.6%-32.7% shooting edge. This game was won at the stripe with the Broncos hitting 16-20 to sink nine more free throws. Derrick Marks led all scorers with 18 points and five yanks on 6-22 shooting followed by a 16 point, 12 rebound effort from James Webb III. Three others added between 5-6 points but the offense wasn’t at it’s best.
A long season is about to come to an end for the San Jose State Spartans with both ends of the floor having big time issues. The offense has topped 60 points twice in the past ten times out and that trend continued in Saturday’s 62-51 loss at Nevada as a 14 point underdog. A 32-20 second half run from the Wolf Pack broke open a close game in a rather ugly contest with both teams combining for 28 turnovers and sinking shots in the 31%-33% range. A 9-30 performance from long range did the Spartans in while Nevada turned 23 personals in to a 34-10 advantage which was obviously decisive. Jaleel Williams led all scorers with 21 points on 7-12 with Brandon Mitchell adding ten points and eight rebounds. Isaac Thornton chipped in with nine points and five yanks but the rest of the team scored just eleven points.
The Broncos are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game. Boise State are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games following a ATS win. The Spartans are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. Mountain West and 21-43-3 ATS in their last 67 games overall. San Jose State are 18-40-3 ATS in their last 61 games following a S.U. loss and 18-41-2 ATS in their last 61 home games. The Broncos are tied with San Diego State for the MWC lead so this is a must win. The question is whether they press the issue or just win big. Perhaps a 1st bet…
