The Santa Barbara Gauchos always seem to be in the mix for the conference crown and right now they are third with two games to play. The gauchos have come from nowhere with wins in six of seven with their defense leading the way to Saturday’s 54-51 victory against visiting UC Irvine. The Anteaters had a slight 43%-40% shooting edge with UCSB hitting a few more threes and foul shots to offset Irvine’s better marksmanship. Alan Williams paced three double digit scorers with 15 points and 15 rebounds on 6-15 from the floor with John Green netting 14 points. Michael Bryson was next in line with eleven points while Zalmico Harmon chipped in with seven points with the rest of the team combining for seven points.
The Hawaii Warriors are on the outside looking in at the top four in the conference with a pair of games left so they want to sweep and head in to the Big West playoffs with a full head of steam. The Warriors prevented a three game skid following a 78-59 victory against visiting Long Beach State with UH taking a double digit lead in to the break an continuing the dominance until the final buzzer. Negus Webster-Chan poured in a game high 20 points on 7-14 from the floor including a 6-12 performance from beyond the arc. Roderick Bobbitt added 15 points and five helpers with Garrett Nevels tossing in 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds followed by a 12 point, six board effort from Stefan Jankovic. Overall seven of the nine man rotation scored.
The Gauchos are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Warriors are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 home games. Hawaii are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. Hawaii will be tough to beat at home but I’m going with the hot team but probably sitting this out…
