The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs are always a tough team to put away when they bring their ‘A’ game and High Point can vouch for that after falling to the Bulldogs 72-71 as a 3.5 point favorite. This was nip and tuck for 45 minutes with both squads connecting at around 41% with the Bulldogs sinking an extra basket. Gardner-Webb rode the offense of Harold McBride who pumped in 21 points on 7-12 marksmanship followed by Tyrell Nelson who tossed in 17 points on 8-9 accuracy before fouling out. Jerome Hill provide the muscle in the paint with 15 points and 15 rebounds but was only 5-18 from the floor. Six players managed to find the scoring column altogether.
The number three seed Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are officially the highest seed remaining in the Big South tournament after a 74-57 rout of UNC Asheville in the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs were in control with a four point lead at the halfway point before the Chanticleers dominated both ends of the floor over the final 20 minutes to win going away. Coastal Carolina won the shooting battle 43%-37.7%which added up to five more baskets with more threes and free throws and 16 forced turnovers translating in to a DD victory. Elijah Wilson was the offensive star of the game with a high of 29 points on 10-15 marksmanship which included seven bombs. with Warren Gillis netting 14 points. Shivaughn Wiggins added eleven points and seven helpers while Josh Cameron chipped in with eight points
