The Western Carolina Catamounts led the East Tennessee State Buccaneers most of the time in their quarterfinal bout before ETSU rallied late to tie only to fall 67-61 in overtime. The Catamounts appeared to be in control with an eight point lead at the break before faltering. The WCU defense saved the day with the Buccaneers held to 32% shooting and forced in to 19 turnovers. The Catamounts hit at 33%and sank three more baskets to win and overcome 17 giveaways. James Sinclair was the star of the game with a high of 30 points and 14 rebounds on 10-24 shooting with Mike Brown adding 16 points and ten boards. Rhett Harrelson chipped in with eight points but the offense struggled with their shot.
The Wofford Terriers are gunning for another championship game appearance and took the first step in convincing fashion with a 70-52 rout of UNC Greensboro in the SoCon quarterfinals. The Terriers defense set the tone with a 30-20 first half while trading baskets the rest of the way. Wofford sank half their looks which was way too much for the Spartans 35% marksmanship to compete with despite nine more looks at the basket. Spencer Collins provided some explosiveness in the offense with a contest high 21 points on 9-16 from the floor. Les Skinner and Karl Cochran added 12 points each with Cochran hauling in a team high nine rebounds while Justin Gordon and Eric Garcia combined for 18 points.
