The 23rd-ranked Georgetown Hoyas finished the season with a 20-9 overall record and earned the 2nd seed in the Big East Championship with a 12-6 conference record. Georgetown enters the Big East Tournament winning 5 of its 6 games as in those 5 wins they’ve held opponents to just 61.6 ppg. The Hoyas are ranked 21st in the RPI Standings and has played the 5th ranked SOS. Georgetown’s biggest wins of the season have come against Indiana, Butler (twice), and Villanova.
Georgetown is averaging 71.3 ppg (ranked 81st) on 45.9% shooting (ranked 71st). The Hoyas average 5.9 three-pointers per game (ranked 224th) on 35.1% shooting (ranked 138th). Georgetown is averaging 12.8 turnovers per game and 13.3 apg (ranked 118th). Defensively, Georgetown is holding their opponents to 65.0 ppg (ranked 137th) on 39.9% shooting (ranked 50th). The Hoyas average 5.1 bpg (ranked 25th) and 7.7 spg (ranked 43rd). Georgetown pull down 35.62 total rpg (ranked 105th) and have a 3.2 rebound margin (ranked 78th). On the season, the Hoyas have been led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (16.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.6 spg) and Joshua Smith (11.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.2 apg).
Georgetown was able to beat Creighton easily in both there matchups earlier this season (76-61 @ home, 67-40 @ Creighton). Creighton has played much better as of late and although they have lost 4 of their last 6 games, their 4 losses (Butler, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier) came by a combined 8 points. Georgetown’s defensive has really caused Creighton headaches this year as they’ve shot 30.8% and 20.8% from the field in their two wins against the Bluejays. Creighton seems to be playing some of their best basketball of the season at this point, however, I think that this just means that the line will be lower than it should. I think the Georgetown defensive will dominate in this one and cover this spread. Take Georgetown to cover.
