The WAC championship will be decided Saturday when the New Mexico Aggies clash with the Seattle Redhawks.
The New Mexico Aggies won the regular season conference title and have the opportunity to capture the postseason championship as well after advancing to the title game with a 57-54 victory against Cal State Bakersfield as a ten point favorite. A competitive game throughout Despite the Aggies holding a 45%-39% shooting edge with four more Roadrunners free throws negating a few more NMSU baskets. Tshilldzi Nephawe gave the offense 19 points and a contest high 14 rebounds on 7-14 accuracy before fouling out in 35 minutes. Daniel Mullings was next in line with 14 points while Pascal Siakam netted ten points and grabbed another ten rebounds.
The Seattle Redhawks look to upend perennial conference New Mexico State in the conference championship after their ticket was punched via a 69-63 victory over Missouri-Kansas City. This one look to be all over with the Redhawks jumping all over the Kangaroos for a 34-16 first half lead before UMKC made things interesting with a late come back. Missouri-Kansas City was done in by 35% shooting which rendered eleven more shots useless with Seattle hitting at a 49% clip. Isiah Umipig was the offensive star with a 30 point performance which included eight makes from distance. William Powell followed with 13 points and six pulls with Jarell Flors tossing in 12 points while Jack Crook added seven points and a game high eleven rebounds.
New Mexico has been tough to dislodge from their perch atop the WAC for awhile and nobody has really challenged them. I have seen some improvement amongst the league but I’m not ready to sat the Aggies are about to relinquish their crown. No line has been released so please check back although I guarantee New Mexico State is favored…
This match up has either been either competitive or a rout and I would hope Seattle brings their 'A' game given what is at stake...
