The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks showed why they won the Southland in a semifinal 91-79 victory against Northwestern State. It took a half for the Lumberjacks to get going as they didn’t get a comfortable lead until midway through the second. Both defenses were tagged for around 52% marksmanship with SFA sinking a few more baskets and six more free throws. Ty Charles and Jared Johnson were tops among five double digit scorers with 16 points apiece on combined 11-23 shooting including six bombs. Jacob Parker was next in line with 15 points and a contest high ten rebounds with Thomas Walkup adding 13 points and seven boards. Clide Geffrerd and Tanner Clayton scored ten and eight points as the offense had plenty of options.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats were in trouble most of the night against a stubborn Texas A&M CC squad before mounting a late charge to win by a 70-67 count. The Islanders connected at 44%and sank six more baskets then the 33 % shooting Bearkats but the difference came at the stripe where Sam Houston State turned 25 personals in to a titanic 29-16 advantage. Jabari Peters was the go to scorer with 19 points and nine boards with five makes from beyond the arc. Michael Holyfield was a monster in the paint with 12 points and a contest high 14 rebounds while Dakaral Henderson scored eleven. Three others mustered between 7-8 points as SHU probably got away with one.
