The Southern Methodist Mustangs have their eyes on the Big Dance after dominating Temple 69-56 in the AAC semifinals. The Mustangs did not play their best in a quarterfinal win against East Carolina but had their way at both ends of the floor versus the Owls. SMU allowed just 29% shooting including 4-24 from long range while connecting at 47% themselves which added up to eight more baskets. Markus Kennedy led three double digit scorers with a contest high 17 points and nine rebounds on 4-7 from the floor while Cannen Cunningham and Yanick Moreira netted eleven points each with Cunningham snagging eight boards. Altogether eight players found the scoring column.
The Connecticut Huskies kept their NCAA hopes alive with a 47-42 victory against Tulsa. The Huskies went on a 16-2 game ending run in the final five minutes to advance to the conference title game on Sunday. Neither team sank shots with the Golden Hurricane hitting at less then 30% with a 3-18 effort on threes doing them in. UConn countered with 36% marksmanship including 7-16 from distance with four free throws in the final 20 seconds holding off Tulsa. Ryan Boatright led all scorers with 21 points and six pulls including five bombs followed by Rodney Purvis tossing in eleven points. Daniel Hamilton was a monster on the backboards with 12 rebounds and five assists to go along with three points.
The Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and Huskies are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a ATS win. Connecticut are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. American Athletic Conference.
