The Delaware State Hornets came from the middle of the MEAC standings to reach the title game which ended up going to Hampton. The Hornets are 18-17 and were outscored on the season by a 72-71 as they have welcomed the fast pace attack. The Hornets stepped up in class several times with their lone success being a surprising victory at Wake Forest early in the season. DSU has seen some improved performances from the defensive end of the floor as of late and if that can continue they will score points. Amere May is one of the top scorers in the MEAC at 21 points followed by Kendall Gray with almost 12 points and a team high 12 rebounds while Tyshawn Bell adds eleven points.
The Radford Highlanders season came to an abrupt end in a one point loss to Winthrop in the opening round of the Big South playoffs. The Highlanders settled for a 21-11 record. Radford has outscored the opposition 73-68 so scoring the basketball is an obvious strength on 46% marksmanship that has combined with just enough defense to consistently win. The number 278 strength of schedule does have something to do with this team’s success as stepping up against bigger names was not a common practice. The Highlanders are a balanced offensive team with Javonte Green tossing in 15 points and snagging a team high nine rebounds with RJ Price scoring 13 while the bench gives the team minutes and quality production.
The Highlanders are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. The Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Delaware State are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss. This is a toss up as the spread tells us but I give the Big South an edge in strength so I’ll back Radford…
