The Grand Canyon Antelope did not participate in the WAC postseason which didn’t matter in the scope of things with New Mexico State being the winner before the playoffs began. The WAC has been a place where new programs get their feet wet and the Antelope are doing that with a not too bad 17-14 record. GRC have outscored the opposition 69-68 on the number 331 strength of schedule which says the team has a ways to go although they beat New Mexico and lost to Central Michigan by two so those are huge performances. DeWayne Russell leads a competent offense with almost 15 points with Joshua Braun netting 12 points while Royce Woolridge adds ten points.
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks were my dark horse to capture the Big Sky postseason but a two point loss to Montana in the semifinals ended that thought. The Lumberjacks didn’t look great early on but really caught fire to finish the conference slate at 14-6 with a 19-14 record overall. NAU was outscored 70-68 but shot the ball at 40% as a team on the number 252 strength of schedule. The Lumberjacks have been involved in a number of close contests against competition of all levels so you never know what you’re getting. Kris Yanku does everything well with 14 points, 4.7 boards and five assists while Quinton Upshur tossing in 14 points as well. Aaseem Dixon adds another 13 with Ako Kaluna netting nine points.
The Lumberjacks are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. NAU are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Antelopes are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Not a fan of this one so the home team ad the basket…
