The High Point Panthers were expected to challenge for the Big South championship but instead fell to Gardner-Webb by a single point to finish the season at 22-9. Shooting and scoring were a strength for the quick of foot Panthers as they averaged 73 points on 47.7% marksmanship while giving up 68 points. A number 228 strength of schedule has people wondering just how good this team is but from what I see, more then a few games were either close or decided by double figures. John Brown was the major weapon on offense at 19 points and a team high six rebounds and was the lone double digit scorer with Lorenzo Cugini,Devante Wallace and Adam Weary average close to ten points.
The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks were one of the top teams in the MEAC bust as fate would have it they ran in to red hot Hampton and were ousted before they knew what hit them. The Hawks finished 18-14 overall on the number 323 strength of schedule with around 67 points scored and allowed. UMES did play some bigger names but were not competitive although they did defeat St Bonaventure which is sort of shocking. Maryland-Eastern Shore will be leaning hard on star Mike Myers who leads the team with 16 points and seven rebounds on almost 59% marksmanship. Devin Martin adds 14 points and Devon Walker is a double digit threat with several others being capable scorers.
The Hawks are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. UMES are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Panthers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. High Point are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. loss. Neither team covers spreads although neither get lined often. High Point either wins big or it’s close for whatever reason so I’ll take the points…
