The Seattle Redhawks saw their opportunity at the Field of 64 go by the wayside in an 80-61 loss to New Mexico State in the WAC championship game to finish the season at 16-15. The Redhawks didn’t have a strong year despite reaching the conference title game as they only outscored the opposition 63-62 in their half court mode of attack. The number 337 strength of schedule tells us what we need to know although wins against Sacramento State and UC Davis more then surprise me. The Redawks have the talent to make shots with Josh Umpig leading the scoring with 17 points followed by Jarell Flora with over 13 points.
I thought Pepperdine was capable of competing with most teams in the West Coast except Gonzaga but I was wrong with an 11-9 conference mark not nearly good enough. The Waves still were none too shabby at 18-13 on the #150 SOS which I am surprised was so low. The Waves outscored the opposition 64-62 but as I always say about this conference, you have to have scoring ability with so many big offenses at the top of this league although the defense did a remarkable job of keeping the scoreboard manageable. Stay Davis is the heart and soul of this team at 16 points and nearly eight rebounds with Jett Raines the only other double digit scorer at eleven points and five boards.
The Waves are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Pepperdine are 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Redhawks are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss. The Waves have played the much tougher schedule which makes me wonder about the line being low. I’ll cautiously back the visitor…
