In a day of close games and upsets the Arizona Wildcats established their dominance early on the way to an easy 93-72 victory against Texas Southern. Zona jumped to a 21 point first half lead and cruised the rest of the way. The Tigers shot the ball well enough at 47% but it didn’t compare to the Wildcats 60% marksmanship which added up eight more buckets. When Texas Southern fouled they paid the price with Arizona connecting on 24-27 attempts. Zona simply had too many weapons with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson pouring in a contest high 23 points with ten rebounds with Stanley Johnson right on his heels with 22 points and five yanks. Brandon Ashley was next in line with14 points while Kaleb Tarczewski and TJ McConnell netting 13 and 12 points.
Many experts believe this is something of a down year for the Ohio State Buckeyes and I don’t think it takes an expert to see that but they still had enough in the tank to down a pretty good Virginia Commonwealth club 75-72 in overtime. The Rams struggled to find the shooting touch on 38% marksmanship with a 10-26 performance from beyond the arc keeping things close. The Buckeyes connected at 49% which was the key to their success with four extra baskets. D’Angelo Russell was the offensive star of the game with 28 points and six pulls on 10-20 from the floor with Amir Williams tossing in 13. Jae’Sean Tate added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds while Shannon Scott chipped in with nine points and a contest high ten assists.
The Buckeyes are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a ATS loss and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record while going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 Saturday games. The Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big Ten. Arizona are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Ohio State isn’t as fearsome as we are accustomed to seeing but Arizona is although the points might be enough for a cover…
