The Indiana-Purdue Jaguars tangle with the Indiana State Sycamores tangle in the season opener.
The Indiana-Purdue Jaguars finished near the bottom of the Summit League with a 10-21 record which was largely a factor of scoring less then 61 points per contest. If the Jaguars expect to move higher in the standings then their scoring and defense has to improve. This was a true score by committee squad that did not have one player average double figures in scoring. Guard Marcellus Barksdale led team in everything with 9.5 points and nearly five rebounds while fellow guard Mason Archie II brings back 7.6 points. This is a guard oriented team that will need to hit shots and hold their own on the backboards to keep bigger squads from destroying them in the paint.

Despite a 15-16 record a season ago the Indiana State Sycamores finished 4th in the Missouri Valley. The Sycamores are hopeful for a winning mark this year but will likely need a bit more scoring punch but it has to come from the frontcourt that is lacking with the biggest name being Matt Van Scycoc who transferred from the Citadel. If the frontcourt can hold their own then a loaded backcourt will certainly take care of business. Guards Devonte Brown, Brenton Scott and Khristian Smith each averaged between 10.5 points to 12 points and were solid rebounders but are the Sycamores ‘experience’ and it will be tough to take down some of the bigger names without some quality play inside.
Indiana-Purdue are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 road games. Indiana State are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 Fri. games and are 12-25 ATS in their last 37 home games. The Jaguars might match up well enough here to cover but I honestly don’t know…
