The Line: Old Dominion Monarchs -16.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The Niagara Purple Eagles face the Old Dominion Monarchs to kick off the season.

There was a time when the Niagara Purple Eagles were one of he top teams in the MAAC but that hasn’t been the case in recent years. The Purple Eagles ended last season at 8-22 and were 7-13 in conference action and those numbers might be difficult to duplicate with seven players transferring. The biggest loss was forward Ramone Snowden taking nearly eleven points and seven rebounds to James Madison of the CAA. The good news is leading scorer Emile Blackmon bringing back 13.5 points while Karonn Davis averaged over seven points and Matt Scott averaging five points in their freshman seasons. The front court is an unknown so we’ll have to wait and see how that goes.

Old Dominion Monarchs vs. Niagara Purple Eagles - 11/13/15 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Old Dominion Monarchs are penciled in as one of the top teams in the CUSA on the way to a 27-8 record and second place in the conference. The Monarchs season ended in the NIT semifinals and the team is looking for an NCAA invitation this year. The Monarchs main weapon is CUSA POY Trey Freeman who brings back 17 points while Aaron Bacote was ODU’s second leading scorer with almost ten points. Forward Denzell Taylor averaged six rebounds and needs to up his three point average and should get plenty of help from East Carolina transfer Brandon Stith averaged almost five points and over six boards to seasons ago. The bottom line is the Monarchs will be a handful if the frontcourt produces.

The under is 6-2 in Niagara’s last 8 road games and is 5-2-1 in their last 8 Friday games while the Purple Eagles  are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Friday games. The under is 13-3 in Old Dominion’s last 16 home games and the under is 10-4 in their last 14 Friday games. ODU is pegged as one of the bes mid majors in the game and we’ll see Saturday…
