The Line: Wright State Raiders -5.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The South Dakota Coyotes kick off the season with the Wright State Raiders on Friday.
The South Dakota Coyotes begin their second season with former Nebraska assistant Craig Smith looking to improve on a 17-16 record. The Coyotes finished 9-7 in the Summit League and won a first round tournament game before their season ended. Many experts have the team finishing somewhere in the middle of the conference but really this will be a wait and see year as the top two scorers in Brandon Bos and Tyler Larsen a take 28 points with them gone while center James Hunter whose interior defense will be missed. Casey Kasperbauer is the only DD scorer while Trey Burnette averaged almost eight points and six rebounds so we shall see if there is enough chemistry on this team right away.

The Weight State Raiders are picked to be a challenger for the 4th or 5th spot in the Horizon. Much of what happens with the Raiders depends on whether head coach Billy Donlan has a healthy roster to put on the floor. A couple of interesting pieces include guard Biggie Minnis transferring from Rhode Island while freshman All American Mark Hughes looks to contribute. Forward JT Yoho averaged nearly 16 points and six boards but appeared in just 16 games while Joe Thomasson and Grant Benzinger combined for 19 points but this was a score by committee squad that generally stood their best chance by controlling the pace and the scoreboard which looks to be the case once again.
The Coyotes are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Friday games. The Raiders are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The over is 5-0 in Coyotes last 5 non-conference games and is 5-1 in Coyotes last 6 overall. The under is 4-0 in Raiders last 4 overall and is 6-1 in Raiders last 7 non-conference games while going 5-1 in Raiders last 6 Friday games. I think South Dakota lost the most talent from a year ago but I think a slower Wright State pace might keep the Coyotes competitive…
