The Utah State Aggies and Weber State Wildcats open their season Friday at the Dee Events Center.
The Utah State Aggies look for another successful season after winning at least 18 games the last 16 years. Jalen Moore returns after leading Utah State with 15.2 points and 6.7 rebounds while David Collette averaged 12.8 points and five rebounds. Chris Smith is the third double-digit scorer and Darius Perkins dished 3.3 assists. The Utah State Aggies were a great defensive team last season that allowed 40.3 percent shooting from the field and 29.7 percent shooting from deep. Utah State also returns its top five scorers from last season, a unit that shot 39.4 percent from beyond the arc. Needless to say, this will be the Utah State Aggies best chance to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2010 season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Weber State Wildcats hope this team can make the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years. Jeremy Senglin returns after leading Weber State with 15.8 points and 3.4 assists while Joel Bolomboy averaged 13.3 points and 10.2 rebounds. Richaud Gittens dished 2.8 assists and Kyndahl Hill grabbed 5.1 rebounds. The Weber State Wildcats return four of their top five scorers, a team that shot 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 74.8 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, however, the Weber State Wildcats could improve, as they’ve allowed 70-plus points in four of their last six games. Weber State has lost five of its last seven home games.
The Aggies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Wildcats are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Friday games. The favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
Utah State is a far more balanced team than Weber State, and the Aggies have the offense as well to keep up with the Wildcats. The Utah State Aggies are a seriously good team to keep an eye on this season. I'll take Utah State in an outright victory.
