It’s Bulldog versus Bulldog when the Citadel takes the floor with #24 Butler on Saturday.
The Citadel Bulldogs finished with an 11-19 and were near the bottom of the SoCon as they were outscored 69-64. Many experts don’t think the Bulldogs will be near the bottom of the conference but right at the bottom with most of the major contributors gone from a team that was struggling beforehand. With Ashton Moore, PJ Horgan and Jake Wright graduating the team taking around 38 points or almost 60% of their output. That leaves Brian White and Quinton Marshall as the only real experience coming back and bringing 13 points and 7.5 rebounds to the table so the Citadel has a ton of production to replace.

The Butler Bulldogs are sometimes overlooked and need to win some games they weren’t expected to draw some national attention. After finishing with a 23-11 record a season ago the Bulldogs won’t be needing to pull off any upsets to garner attention as they begin the year ranked in the top 25. Butler lost Alex Barlow and Kameron Woods the Bulldogs return their top three scorers in Kellen Dunham, Roosevelt Jones and Andrew Chrabascz. The key will be how North Carolina State transfer Tyler Lewis fits in and whether the forward can score and rebound to bolster what many view as a possibly weak frontcourt.
The over is 7-1 in Citadel’s last 8 Saturday games and is 20-6 in their last 26 overall while the Citadel are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games. The under is 9-1-1 in Butler’s last 11 overall while Butler are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. I’m not really interested in games with giant spreads to begin the year…
