The Furman Paladins take the floor with former conference rival the Appalachian State Mountaineers.
An experienced Furman Paladins squad kicked off the season with a 63-53 victory versus the Presbyterian Blue Hose. The Paladins offense received 17 points and ten rebounds from Matt Rafferty on 6-9 shooting with Kris Acox adding eleven points and another ten boards. John Davis III and Daniel Fowler scored eight points apiece with Fowler snagging nine pulls. Ten players scored overall with Furman owning a +17 on the glass to keep shot attempts even.

The Appalachian Mountaineers opened the year with a tough 76-68 win versus the Jacksonville Dolphins. Both teams sank shots in the 38% range but as is the case in many games the advantage came at the charity stripe where the Mountaineers held a 20-11 edge. ASU also dominated the backboards 47-29 with 16 offensive rebounds. The Mountaineers received a team high 18 points from Chris Burgess on 6-9 from the floor with Emarius Logan adding 13 points while Michael Obacha added eleven points and nine boards. Griffin Kinney and Ronshad Shabazz each tossed in nine points with Kinney snaring six pulls.
