The Xavier Musketeers and the Missouri Tigers face off on Tuesday at the Cintas Center in college basketball action.
The Xavier Musketeers got their season started with a win beating Miami of Ohio by nine points. Xavier shot 41.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc but they dominated the boards outrebounding the Redhawks 40-22. Edmond Sumner led XU scoring 19 points in the win. J.P. Macura scored 17 points, Jalen Reynolds scored 16 points, and Trevon Bluiett scored 10 points. Xavier is a regular to the NCAA Tournament and they believe this year will be no different.
USA TODAY Sports
The Missouri Tigers are off to a 2-0 start and while they have faced Wofford and UMES they have taken care of business. Missouri is averaging 78 points per game and they are shooting 50.5 percent including a blistering 41.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively their opponents shoot 38.4 percent against them. Kevin Puryear is Missouri’s top scorer averaging 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Namon Wright is averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, Terrence Phillips is averaging 10.0 points, and Wes Clark is averaging 9.5 points. Missouri has faded late in the season and disappointed in the tournament in recent years.
Xavier is 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 5-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 33-16 against the spread in their last 49 home games. Missouri is 9-24-2 against the spread in their last 35 road games, 2-6 against the spread against the Big East, and 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four non-conference games.
I am very confident that Xavier wins this game but 14 points is a ton and though I expect Bluiett to play a bigger role I am going to take the points with Mizzou.
