The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Missouri State Bears play Friday at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are coming off a Thursday loss to the Temple Owls, 75-70. In the losing effort, Minnesota shot 38 percent from the field and scored only 26 first half points. Nate Mason and Joey King continue to carry the Golden Gophers offensively, but others must start stepping up if this is going to be a successful season for Minnesota. The Minnesota Golden Gophers also didn’t press as much in their loss to Temple but did have great success when forcing the issue defensively. Minnesota has now forced a combined 25 turnovers in its last three games. You get the feeling that the young Minnesota Golden Gophers have to win this game to give the youngsters confidence moving forward into Big Ten play.

The Missouri State Bears are still looking for their first win after getting blown out Thursday to Butler, 93-59. In the loss, Butler was able to shoot 60 percent from the field while the Bears made just two of 15 threes. Dequon Miller and Jarred Dixon were the only Missouri State players to score double-digit points. The Missouri State Bears have now lost 16 of their last 19 games and a lack of defense has been a common theme in those losses. Missouri State is a team that returns all five of its starters from last year, but struggles at both ends of the floor continue to be an issue despite the experience. While everything may look bad now for Missouri State, a win here would certainly go a long way to turning the Bears season around.
The Golden Gophers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games. The Bears are 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 Friday games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
This game is so early that posting a pick when the line comes out would be pointless.. So, I'm going to say Minnesota wins this game by double digits. Missouri State is experienced but still struggles to put the ball in the hoop. I expect the Gophers to turn the pressure up defnesively and take advantage of their speed in the open court. This should be an easy win for Minny.
