Tennessee vs. Gardner-Webb - 11/22/15 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Tennessee Volunteers were able to bounce back from their 69-67 loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and improved to 2-1 (0-0 SEC) on the season after defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd 84-74 this past Thursday. The Volunteers found themselves down by three after the 1st half but outscored Marshall by a 49-36 margin in the 2nd half to secure the victory. Tennessee shot 40.0% from the field and an impressive 83.3% (25-30) from the FT line in the victory. The Volunteers held Marshall to 25.7% (9-35) from beyond the arc and forced the Thundering Herd to commit 14 turnovers. Leading the way for Tennessee was Armani Moore who had 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Volunteers have been led by Kevin Punter (19.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.7 apg), Robert Hubbs III (16.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg), and Armani Moore (16.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.3 bpg). Offensively, Tennessee is shooting 41.7% from the field and just 27.8% from beyond the arc on the season. Defensively, the Volunteers are holding their opponents to 40.0% shooting and are averaging 5.3 bpg.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 road games. The Volunteers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games however just 2-14-2 ATS in their last 18 home games.

Gardner Webb was able to pick up 20 wins last season and although they lost some players, they still are have some major size in Tyrell Nelson who is one of the best players in the Big South. Tennessee now has former Texas coach Rick Barnes in charge, however, Tennessee is somewhat in rebuilding mode and doesn’t have their leading scorer from last season in Josh Richardson (16.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.1 spg). Tennessee should be able to get back on track with Barnes but Gardner Webb does have some talent on their club and I think they will be able to keep this one within the large number. Take Gardner Webb and the points.
