The UT-Arlington Mavericks will travel to FedEx Forum to take on the Memphis Tigers this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The UT-Arlington Mavericks improved to 2-1 (0-0 Sun Belt) on the season after they were able to upset the Ohio State Buckeyes 73-68 this past Friday. UT-Arlington scored the first 7 points in the 2nd half to take a 39-34 lead and never trailed in the game again. UT-Arlington shot just 37.5% from the field and 26.1% from beyond the arc, but was impressive at the FT line hitting 86.4% (19-22) of their FT’s. The Mavericks allowed the Buckeyes to shoot 41.8% from the field and outrebounded Ohio State by a 46-37 margin. Leading the way for UT-Arlington was Kevin Hervey who had 18 points and 7 rebounds. The Memphis Tigers rebounded from their recent lost to the 8th ranked Oklahoma Sooners to defeat the Grambling State Tigers 83-65 this past Thursday to improve to 2-1 (0-0 American) on the season. Memphis held just a 4 point halftime lead but outscored Grambling State by a 43-29 margin in the 2nd half to secure the victory. Memphis shot 48.1% from the field and had a great day at the FT line hitting 80% (28-35) of their FT’s. The Tigers held Grambling State to 40.0% shooting from the field and outrebounded Grambling State by a 39-32 margin. Leading the way for Memphis was Trashon Burrell who had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. On the season, the Tigers have been led by Dedric Lawson (17.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.3 bpg), Trashon Burrell (11.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg), and Shaq Goodwin (10.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3.0 bpg). Offensively, Memphis is shooting just 39.9% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc on the season. Defensively, the Tigers are holding opponents to 36.3% shooting and have a 7.3 turnover margin.
The Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win. The Tigers are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 Monday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
UT-Arlington will be riding high into this matchup against Memphis however, this is still a team that is shooting just 37.4% from the field. Memphis has also struggled offensively but they have to be thrilled with their effort on the defense end and the production they are getting from Freshman Dedric Lawson. The Mavericks will have trouble scoring in this one and although I would rather have this spread around 7 or 8, I think Memphis will be able to pull away late in this one and cover this double-digit spread. Take Memphis to cover.
