The Vanderbilt Commodores tangle with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Maui.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are supposed to make Kentucky work to win the SEC and they certainly looked like a team to be reckoned with after crushing St John’s 92-55 on Monday. The Commodores took the mystery out of this one early with a 29 point lead heading in to the locker room. The Red Storm were held to 30% including 2-16 from the perimeter while Vandy connected at 53% and nailed 12-25 from distance. Luke Kornet led the scoring spree with 13 points and five yanks with Camron Justice and Jeff Roberson tossing in eleven points each with Roberson hauling in 13 rebounds followed by a ten point effort from Nolan Cressler.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are allowing a lot of points but their 3-1 record tells us the offense is also lighting up the scoreboard as well. Both trends continued Monday in an 82-78 victory versus Indiana as a 12 point underdog. Wake led by five going to the second half and refused to cave on nearly 51% marksmanship while the Hoosiers hit shots at 43% and kept things close with four more bombs and ten more free throws. Devin Tomas poured in a game high 21 points and grabbed eight boards with Konstantinos Mitoglou pumping in 18 points and snagging another eight boards. Mitchell Wilbekin and Bryant Crawford netted 13 points each while John Collins chipped in ten points and snagged nine rebounds.
What we have here are two teams that can score the basketball. Taking it a step further Wake Forest didn’t get many accolades in the offseason and that means they could be playing with a chip on their shoulder. On the flip side the Commodores are penciled in as one of the few teams that might challenge a loaded Kentucky squad. No line is out so I will look deeper in to this…
