The Georgia State Panthers look for a road win against the Mississippi Rebels Wednesday.
The Georgia State Panthers have been the monster squad in the Sun Belt the past two seasons but are not expected to be the team to beat this year as a top four finish would be a solid accomplishment. The Panthers are off to a 2-0 start but the competition was a pair of sub division squads. GSU hammered Emmanuel 77-58 as they took a 15 point lead at the half and never were challenged. The Lions were held to less then 40% while the Panthers connected at 57% and sank ten more free throws. Jeremy Holllowell poured in a game high 25 points on 10-15 followed by a 19 point, five board effort from Kevin Ware while Markus Krider and Isaiah Williams combined for 21 points.

The Mississippi Rebels will have a tough time breaking in to the top half of the SEC with quite a bit of talent gone so their 3-2 record is difficult to gage. The Rebels held a one point lead over Seton Hall at the half before falling apart over the final 20 minutes in a 75-63 defeat. This came down to which team sank shots with Ole Miss connecting at 38% while the Pirates hi at 49% which was a crucial four more field goals. Tomasz Gielo led the Mississippi offense with 15 points and five yanks followed by Stefan Moody netting 13 points. Sebastian Saiz and Sam Finley each scored eleven points but the remainder of the team combined for 13 points.
The over is 8-1 in Georgia State’s last Wednesday games and is 21-8 in their last 29 non-conference games while the under is 10-4 in the Panthers last 14 overall. If you read the basketball publications then you know each team lost talent. Tough call here because Georgia State has played nobody and I’ll probably sit this one out…
