The San Jose State Spartans dropped to 1-2 (0-0 MW) on the season after being defeated by the Montana State Bobcats this past Friday. Montana State was up by a 42-31 margin at halftime in this one and used a 10-2 run early in the 2nd half to take complete control of this one. San Jose State shot 47.4% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc shooting just 26.3% (5-19). The Spartans allowed Montana State to shot 46.3% from the field and was outrebounded by the Bobcats by a 45-25 margin. Leading the way for San Jose State was Princeton Onwas who had 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Spartans have been led by Princeton Onwas (12.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.7 apg), Frank Rogers (11.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.7 apg), and Ryan Welage (11.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg). The Toledo Rockets dropped to 2-1 (0-0 MAC) on the season after being defeated by the Loyola (CHI) Ramblers this past Saturday. Toledo actually held a 39-24 halftime lead in this one but fell apart in the 2nd half allowing the Ramblers to outscore them by a 45-23 margin. Toledo shot 41.0% from the field and struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 28.6% (6-21). The Rockets allowed the Ramblers to shoot 45.7% from the field and were outrebounded by Loyola (CHI) by a 37-30 margin. Leading the way for Toledo was Nathan Boothe who had a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. On the season, the Rockets have been led by Nathan Boothe (22.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 3.3 apg), Jonathan Williams (16.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.3 apg), and Stuckey Mosley (12.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.7 apg). Offensively, Toledo is shooting 49.5% from the field and averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game through their first three games. Defensively, the Rockets are allowing their opponents to shoot 39.7% from the field and have a turnover margin of 4.0.
The Rockets are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games. The Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record however, just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games.
It’s hard to say that a team is happy being 1-2 after their first three games, but considering that San Jose State went 2-28 last season and lost their top five scorers, being 1-2 right now isn’t that bad. Toledo, outside of the 2nd half of their recent game against Loyola (CHI), has played well this season despite losing their top three-scorers from their team last year. Toledo is hands down the better team in this one and as I don’t see the Spartans having any answer for Nathan Boothe or Jonathan Williams, I think Toledo wins this one by at least 15 and covers this spread. Take Toledo to cover.
