The Columbia Lions take the hardwood with the Fairfield Stags in Friday action.
The Columbia Lions are picked by many to win the Ivy League but are 3-2 after five games and looking for win number three in a row after a solid 70-59 victory versus Wofford. The Lions broke open a close game with a 46-32 second half run behind a 52%-48% shooting advantage that also featured eight more makes at the stripe. Alex Rosenberg paced three DD scorers with 16 points on 4-6 from the field while Maodo Lo and Grant Mullins with eleven points apiece with Mullins posting five yanks. Luke Petrasek, Jeff Coby and Nate Hickman each netted between 7-8 points.

The Fairfield Stags were one of the best teams in the MAAC a few short seasons ago but have been in a rebuilding mode where the name of the game was control the scoreboard. That trend has reversed in back to back victories where points were scored in bunches capped off by a 113-76 rout of Maryland-Eastern Shore. FF jumped to a 21 point first half lead and continued the pounding for a full 40 minutes. The Stags connected at 57% and hit 17 bombs and the Hawks 34% shooting simply wasn’t competitive. Marcus Gilbert was the offensive star with 32 points and seven pulls followed by a 20 point, eight board, nine assist effort from Tyler Nelson. Jerry Johnson Jr. tossed in 19 while Curtis Cobb and Matija Milin combined for 21 points.
The over is 11-4 in Columbia’s last 15 overall and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 non-conference games while the under is 15-7 in their last 22 road games. Fairfield are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 Friday games and the under is 39-16 in their last 55 home games. I think the choice here is Columbia if both teams play their best…
