The Seton Hall Pirates take the hardwood at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Saturday action.
The Seton Hall Pirates look to make an impact this season after a poor finish a year ago. It’s been so far, so good as the Pirates have opened with a 5-1 record and are riding a three game winning streak capped off by a 69-62 victory versus Georgia where a strong finish broke open a tied contest at the half. The Bulldogs held a 46.8%-41.8% but the Pirates mustered eight more looks and sank five more free throws. Isaiah Whitehead led all scorers with 22 points on 7-19 followed closely by a 20 point, six board effort from Khadeen Carrington. Desi Rodriguez scored eleven points before fouling out in 18 minutes while Derrick Gordon chipped in eight points.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights haven’t been give many accolades heading in to the year and we don’t know if this team is good, bad or otherwise until they play more. The 3-4 Scarlet Knights have dropped three in a row after a narrow 69-68 defeat to visiting Wake Forest as a six point underdog. Neither team shot the ball well with the Demon Deacons holding a 39.7%-36.5% edge. The Scarlet Knights forced 18 turnovers which added up to 16 more looks and four more baskets to nearly pull out the win. Corey Sanders led the Scarlet Knights with 17 points with Greg Lewis adding eleven points and nine rebounds while Jonathan Laurent netting ten points and snagging seven boards.
Seton Hall are 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 Saturday games and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 vs. Big Ten while going 9-4 in their last 13 Saturday games. Rutgers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and the under is 11-4 in their last 15 home games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Saturday games. The road team is 21-5 ATS in the last 26 meetings and the underdog is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings. Seton Hall might not be close to being the best in the Big East but I think they have enough here…
