The South Carolina Gamecocks and South Florida Bulls face off on Saturday in college basketball action.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are off to a 7-0 start as Frank Martin’s coaching and recruiting appears to be finally kicking in. South Carolina is averaging 84.1 points and they are shooting 45.1 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 69.1 points and their opponents are shooting 39.2 from the floor. Mindaugas Kacinas leads the Gamecocks averaging 15.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Laimonas Chatkevicius is averaging 14.9 points, Duane Notice is averaging 12 points, and Michael Carrera is averaging 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. South Carolina has struggled for several years but appear to on their way back to being relevant.
USA TODAY Sports
The South Florida Bulls are 2-6 this season and have failed every time they have been tested by a decent team. USF is averaging 64.8 points per game and they are shooting 40.9 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 70.2 points and their opponents are shooting 39.5 percent. Jahmal McMurray is averaging 12.4 points per game to lead the Bulls. Roddy Peters is averaging 11.1 points, Jaleel Cousins is averaging 9.3 points and 7.9 rebounds, and Angel Nunez is averaging 9.3 points and 5.8 rebounds. South Florida is clearly struggling to find some offense.
South Carolina is 6-0 against the spread in their last six home games, 5-0 against the spread in their last five games, and 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 non-conference games. South Florida is 3-1-1 against the spread against the SEC, 2-8-1 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games.
South Carolina looks to be the far better team here and I don’t see South Florida scoring enough to keep it close.
