The Southern Illinois Salukis might be one of the surprise teams in the early going with the knack of doing what is needed to get the win. The Salukis improved to 8-1 wit their third consecutive victory after downing North Texas 95-63 where they jumped to a 17 point lead at the half and kept their foot down until the final buzzer. This was all about shooting the basketball and SIU was outstanding at 68% including 10-15 from beyond the arc. Anthony Beane Jr. led all scorers with 27 points on 11-14 with Mike Rodriguez tossing in 12 on 3-5. Sean O’Brien netted ten points on 4-7 from the floor and Tyler Smithpeters chipped in with nine points. Of the 12 players that scored only one hit at less then 50%.
I don’t see any trends that would convince me to back either side over the other. The eye test says North Texas is having problems and Southern Illinois is doing great. I hate backing a team at big chalk after they just beat the same opponent but to me I don’t have anything that says do otherwise but I just don’t like it….
