The Florida Atlantic Owls take the hardwood at instate rival the Florida State Seminoles.
The Florida Atlantic Owls struggles thus far can be summed up as not scoring enough and allowing too many points. That was the trend in Wednesday’s 81-62 as the Volunteers opened up a nine point lead in the first 20 minutes and keeping the pressure on until the final buzzer. The Owls never found the shooting touch with 34.5% accuracy while the Vols countered with 48% marksmanship which gave the home team seven more baskets with eight more free throws making this a runaway. FAU needed points and only had one double digit scorer with Solomon Poole tossing in ten points with Nick Rutherford adding nine points, five yanks and six assists. Jackson Trapp and Jeantal Cylla netting eight points apiece.

There are several teams that get plenty of ink in the ACC and the Florida State Seminoles are trying to get noticed. In the past the Seminoles were known more for their stifling defense but it’s hard to ignore the 86 point average they have built so far. The Noles were dominant at both ends of the floor in Sunday’s 75-58 victory versus the visiting Southeastern Louisiana Lions. FSU led by seven after the first before pulling away late. Both squads sank shots in the 41% range with the Lions getting hurt with 16 turnovers while Florida State came up with a 24-6 edge at the foul line. Benji Bell gave the Seminoles 18 points on 6-7 from the floor including four bombs while Malik Beasley added 16 points and eight boards. Phil Cofer chipped in with nine but all eleven players that saw the floor scored.
The under is 10-2 in the Owls last 12 non-conference games. Florida State are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games overall and the under is 40-19-2 in their last 61 neutral site games. I expected the spread to be large and I expect Florida Atlantic will bring their ‘A’ against their big instate rival but the Seminoles cover if they feel like it…
