The 5th ranked Iowa State Cyclones remained a perfect 9-0 (0-0 Big 12) on the season after defeating the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, 78-64, this past Sunday. Iowa State was strong offensively as they shot 49.1% from the field and 50.0% (12-24) from beyond the arc. The Cyclones allowed the Golden Lions to shot 45.9% from the field and 30.0% (6-20) from beyond the arc. Iowa State was outrebounded by Arkansas-Pine Bluff by a 36-29 margin but forced the Golden Lions to commit 19 turnovers. Leading the way for Iowa State was Monte Morris who had a double-double with 12 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. On the season, the Cyclones have been led by Georges Niang (17.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.7 apg), Monte Morris (15.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 7.9 apg, 2.0 spg), and Jameel McKay (15.0 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 1.4 bpg). The Cyclones have a rebound margin of 4.3 and a turnover margin of 2.9.

The Panthers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big-12 opponents and 19-7-3 ATS in their last 29 games overall. The Cyclones are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Northern Iowa is once again of one of the better mid-major teams in the country and already has a great signature win against North Carolina. Iowa State has one of the best starting five’s in the country and two outstanding players in Monte Morris and Georges Niang. Northern Iowa has lost two of their last games (both of the road) and has struggled a bit offensively as they averaged just 65.6 ppg in their last three games. Iowa State is one of the better teams in the country, but after losing Nazareth Mitrou-Long for the season due to injury, the Cyclones don’t have much depth which was on displayed in their last game in which all five starters played 30+ mins. Iowa State has great talent but I think the loss of Mitrou-Long is going to be more damaging than expected and I think Northern Iowa will be able to keep this one within the number. Take Northern Iowa and the points.
