The Line: New Mexico Lobos -18 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Rice Owls pay a visit to The Pit with an upset of the New Mexico Lobos on their minds.
The Rice Owls don’t have an issue scoring the basketball but unfortunately for them opponents have had less of a problem. The Owls have won two in a row against sub division programs after knocking off St. Thomas 67-54 on Thursday. Rice took a 14 point lead in to the locker room and were never challenged with the Celts shooting 35%. The Owls only connected at 39.6% but 17 more free throws putt his one in the win column. Marcus Evans was a man among boys with 32 points on 9-15 while Marquez Letcher-Ellis added ten points and hauled in 13 rebounds. Andrew Drone and Egor Koufechov combined for 15 points and 13 boards which was too much for the poor shooting Celts.

Most people are probably trying to figure out where the New Mexico lobos stand but the numbers say this team can score and defend. The Lobos improved to 7-2 and have won four of five after downing the rival New Mexico State Aggies 79-61 behind a big second half run. The Lobos shot the ball a bit better at 47.6%-45% and had ten more looks at the basket to total six more field goals and seven more threes. Elijah Brown was the Lobos offensive star with 20 points, eight boards and six helpers with Tim Williams right on his heels with 18 points and seven rebounds. Cullen Neal added 13 points and nine helpers while Sam Logwood contributed ten points.
The over is 14-3 in Rice last 17 overall. New Mexico are 16-6 in the last 22 Saturday games. I was hoping for less chalk here because anything can happen with big spreads so I’ll go with the potential of New Mexico at home…
