The Cal State Fullerton Titans and the Portland Pilots take the hardwood on Saturday night.
The Cal State Fullerton Titans were red hot with six consecutive victories but have now dropped back to back contests with an 82-70 loss to Loyola Marymount. This was the second loss of the year to the Lions who fired away at 54% with the Titans connecting at 41.5% which was a difference of ten field goals that helped negate CS Fullerton’s 18-8 advantage at the stripe. Tre Coggins led a trio of double digit scorers with 18 points on 7-15 shooting followed by Lanerryl Johnson with 16 points on 6-10 from the field. Malcolm Brooks was next in line with 14 points on 4-7 including three long balls but nobody else scored more then five points and another offensive option was needed.

At 5-6 the Portland Pilots need to get some momentum in their favor and the only way to do that is by winning. The Pilots took a step in the right direction with an 81-73 win versus visiting Sacramento State that snapped a two game skid. The Pilots led by 14 at the half and the Hornets were held in check the rest of the way. Both teams sank shots at around 40% with Portland making a few more baskets, threes and free throws. Gabe Taylor and Alec Wintering paced the offense with 17 points each and ten boards with Wintering handing out six helpers. D’Marques Tyson tossed in 13 points while five players contributed between 5-8 points forsome balance .
The Titans are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games. Portland are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games overall. Neither team covers spreads with any kind of consistency and there isn’t a big advantage somewhere to exploit. I’ll take the basket with the dark horse in the Big West…
