The 16th ranked Louisville Cardinals won their 5th straight game and improved to 10-1 (0-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the UMKC Kangaroos, 75-47, last night. Louisville used a strong defensive effort to gain a 38-22 halftime lead and never let UMKC get within single digits in the 2nd half. Louisville shot 49.1% from the field and forced UMKC to commit 19 turnovers in the victory. The Cardinals held the Kangaroos to just 29.8% shooting from the field and 31.6% (6-19) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Louisville was Chinanu Onuaku who had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 assists. On the season, the Cardinals have been led by Damion Lee (17.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.8 spg), Trey Lewis (14.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.8 apg), and Chinanu Onuaku (9.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.8 bpg). Offensively, Louisville is averaging 86.0 ppg on 51.8% shooting from the field and 38.1% shooting from three-point range. The Cardinals average 6.7 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.39. Defensively, Louisville is holding their opponents to an average of 55.6 ppg on 35.2% shooting from the field. The Cardinals have a rebound margin of 16.5 and a turnover margin of 4.2.
The Wolverines are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Cardinals are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Louisville has been getting great production from their transfers Damion Lee (Drexel) and Trey Lewis (Cleveland State) to go along with Chinanu Onuaku anchoring the defense in the post. Utah State has tried to keep the tempo up during their games however, have struggled if their three-pointers are dropping and haven’t put much of a fight on the defensive side of the ball. This game has yet to be lined but as Louisville is one of the best on the defensive teams in the country and that they will be on their home court, I just don’t see Utah Valley keeping this one close at all and expect another 25-30 point win by the Cardinals.
