The Temple Owls will travel to Fifth Third Arena to take on the 22nd ranked Cincinnati Bearcats this Tuesday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Temple Owls improved to 5-5 (0-0 AAC) on the season after defeating the Delaware State Hornets, 78-63, on December 19th. Temple struggled a bit against the winless Delaware State squad but used a run early in the 2nd half to gain some separation and get the win. Temple struggled offensively in the win as they shot just 35.5% from the field and 14.8% (4-27) from beyond the arc. The Owls did outrebound the Hornets by a 48-33 margin and won the turnover battle by a 15-9 margin. Leading the way for Temple was Quenton DeCosey who had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. On the season, the Owls have been led by Quenton DeCosey (15.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.2 apg), Obi Enechionyia (11.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg), and Jaylen Bond (10.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg). The 22nd ranked Cincinnati Bearcats dropped to 10-3 (0-0 AAC) on the season after losing a close battle with the Iowa State Cyclones, 81-79, this past Tuesday. Cincinnati came back from a 13-point deficit in the 2nd half but couldn’t get complete the comeback after missing multiple shots in the closing seconds of the game. Cincinnati shot 47.0% from the field and outrebounded Iowa State by a 40-36 margin in the loss. The Bearcats allowed the Cyclones to shoot 42.6% from the field and committed 10 turnovers. Leading the way for Cincinnati was Troy Caupain who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. On the season, the Bearcats have been led by Troy Caupain (10.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.5 apg), Gary Clark (10.0 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.2 bpg), and Octavius Ellis (10.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.5 bpg). On the season, Cincinnati is averaging 78.2 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field and 36.1% shooting from three-point range. The Bearcats average 7.9 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.39. Defensively, Cincinnati is holding their opponents to an average of 61.1 ppg on 37.4% shooting. The Bearcats have a rebound margin of 7.9 and a turnover margin of 1.8.
The Owls are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 vs. AAC opponents. The Bearcats are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. AAC opponents however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Temple has a solid defense however, can really struggle on the offensive end if Quenton DeCosey is having an off night. Cincinnati is one of the better defensive teams in the country and although they can also have trouble on the offensive end at times, they are a well-rounded team that plays with lots of energy. Temple didn’t look great against Delaware State recently and as I don’t think the Owls will be able to score more than 50-55 points in this one, I think Cincinnati will be able to cover this large spread at home. Take Cincinnati to cover in this one.
