The Golden Grizzlies held the Cougars to 41.0% shooting from the field and outrebounded Chicago State by a 42-36 margin. The 5th ranked Virginia Cavaliers continued their winning ways and improved to 10-1 (0-0 ACC) on the season after a 63-62 overtime win against the California Golden Bears on December 22nd. Virginia struggled offensively throughout the game but was able to use a 9-0 run in the 2nd half to get the game in OT and got a big three-pointer from London Perrantes late in OT to get the win. Virginia shot just 38.9% from the field but was great form beyond the arc hitting 7 of 12 three-pointers. The Cavaliers were outrebounded by a 36-30 margin and forced California into committing 13 turnovers. Leading the way for Virginia was Anthony Gill who had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block. On the season, the Cavaliers have been led by Malcolm Brogdon (16.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.0 apg), Anthony Gill (14.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg), and London Perrantes (11.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.8 apg). Offensively, Virginia is averaging 76.0 ppg on 50.4% shooting from the field and 41.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Defensively, Virginia is holding their opponents to an average of 59.2 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Cavaliers have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of 4.5.
The Golden Grizzlies are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Wednesday games and 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Cavaliers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 games following an ATS loss.
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have been playing great as of late and are led by one of the top players in the country in Kahlil Felder. Virginia has been one of the best teams in the country on the defensive end and although they have a few options on the offensive side of the ball, they sometimes can have trouble finding ways to put the ball in the basket. Oakland gave Michigan State all they could handle but I just don’t think Oakland will be able to find enough offense on the road against the Cavaliers and as Oakland’s defense is less than par, I’m too concerned about Virginia not being able to score the ball. Take Virginia to cover at home.
