The Green Bay Phoenix will travel to the Wolstein Center to take on the Cleveland State Vikings this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Green Bay Phoenix won their 3rd straight game and improved to 9-5 (2-0 Horizon) on the season after defeating the Wright State Raiders, 76-68, this past Monday. Green Bay found themselves down by a 45-35 margin at halftime, but used a 13-4 run in the 2nd half to take a 55-54 lead and was able to hold the Raiders to just 23 2nd half points in the victory. Green Bay shot 40.7% from the field and 45.0% (9-20) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Phoenix allowed the Raiders to shoot 46.7% from the field and outrebounded Wright State by a 42-34 margin. Leading the way for Green Bay was Khalil Small who had 20 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. On the season, the Phoenix have been led by Carrington Love (19.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.6 spg), Charles Cooper (11.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg), and Jordan Fouse (11.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.4 spg). Green Bay is averaging 83.8 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field and 36.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Phoenix average 6.4 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.08. The Cleveland State Vikings lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 5-10 (0-2 Horizon) after being defeated by the Detroit Titans, 88-80, this past Monday. After being tied with Detroit at halftime, 42-42, the Vikings allowed the Titans to build an 8-point lead late in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back for the victory. Cleveland State shot 50.0% from the field and 43.8% (7-16) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Vikings allowed the Titans to shoot 45.8% from the field and committed 17 turnovers in the game. Leading the way for Cleveland State was Rob Edwards who had 26 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. On the season, the Vikings have been led by Rob Edwards (12.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.5 apg), Andre Yates (9.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.8 apg), and Demonte Flannigan (9.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.0 bpg). Offensively, Cleveland State is averaging 62.6 ppg on 40.0% shooting from the field and 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. The Vikings average 5.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.78. Defensively, Cleveland State is holding their opponents to an average of 66.9 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Vikings average 7.6 steals per game and have a turnover margin of 1.4.
The Phoenix are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win. The Vikings are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games however, just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
Cleveland State was able to take both games from a talented Green Bay team last season, but as the Vikings no longer have Anton Grady and Trey Lewis, defeating the Phoenix should prove more difficult this season. Green Bay has one of the better scoring offenses in the country and has done a great just forcing turnovers on the defensive end as they rank 2nd in the country in both steals per game and turnover margin. The Vikings play better at home, but I just don’t think their defensive is good enough to stop Green Bay’s offensive attack and that Green Bay gets revenge on the Vikings with a solid road win. Take Green Bay to cover this small spread.
