The Missouri State Bears will travel to the Joseph J. Gentile Center to take on the Loyola (CHI) Ramblers this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Missouri State Bears pulled off a huge upset by defeating the Northern Iowa Panthers, 59-58, this past Wednesday to improve to 5-10 (1-2 MVC) on the season. Missouri State played well defensively throughout the matchup and got a layup from Dequon Miller with five seconds left in the game to get the big victory. Missouri State shot 48.0% from the field and outrebounded Northern Iowa by a 34-27 margin. The Bears held the Panthers to 40.0% shooting from the field and only sent Northern Iowa to the FT line four times in the game. Leading the way for Missouri State was Obediah Church who had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Bears have been led by Camyn Boone (12.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg), Dequon Miller (11.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.9 apg), and Chris Kendrix (10.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.2 spg). Offensively, Missouri State is averaging 66.9 ppg on 41.5% shooting from the field and 28.2% shooting from beyond the arc. The Bears average 4.7 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.96. Defensively, Missouri State is allowing an average of 72.6 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Bears have a rebound margin of 1.7 and average 6.3 steals per game.

The Loyola (CHI) Ramblers lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 7-8 (0-3 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Illinois State Redbirds, 54-52, this past Wednesday. Loyola (CHI) was able to hold the Redbirds scoreless for the first 8 minutes of the contest but still was down 26-21 at halftime and couldn’t do enough in the 2nd half to comeback for the win. Loyola (CHI) shot just 35.8% from the field and 14.3% (3-21) from beyond the arc. The Ramblers held the Redbirds to 35.3% shooting from the field and 38.9% (7-18) from three-point range. Leading the way for Loyola (CHI was Montel James who had a double-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, the Ramblers have been led by Montel James (11.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.0 bpg), Milton Doyle (11.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.8 apg), and Devon Turk (11.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Offensively, Loyola (CHI) is averaging 65.6 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field and 32.0% shooting from beyond the arc. The Ramblers average 6.6 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.91. Defensively, Loyola (CHI) is holding their opponents to an average of 66.6 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Ramblers average 6.3 steals per game and as a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Missouri State Bears are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Ramblers are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games following a straight up loss however, just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
After struggling in its first two MVC games this season, Missouri State shocked everyone with a win over Northern Iowa earlier in the week behind a strong defensive effort. Loyola (CHI) looked like a team ready to become a contender in the MVC this season but has struggled a bit as the Ramblers have struggled offensively when Milton Doyle has had off games. I think this line is a bit lower than it should be for Loyola (CHI) due to Missouri State’s win over Northern Iowa, and as the Ramblers are usually solid at home, I’m taking the Loyola (CHI) to cover this spread. Take Loyola (CHI) to cover.
