The Oakland Golden Grizzles lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 9-7 (1-2 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Valparaiso Crusaders, 84-67, this past Friday. Oakland played Valparaiso tough but allowed the Crusaders to go on a 10-0 run to get a double-digit lead in the 2nd half and couldn’t come back to get the victory. Oakland struggled offensively as they shot just 34.3% from the field and 32.0% (8-25) from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies allowed the Crusaders to shoot 49.1% from the field and was outrebounded by the Crusaders by a 49-31 margin. Leading the way for the Golden Grizzlies was Jalen Hayes who had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. On the season, Oakland has been led by Kahlil Felder (25.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 9.0 apg), Percy Gibson (12.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg), and Jalen Hayes (12.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg). Offensively, Oakland is averaging 85.6 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field and 39.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Grizzlies average 9.3 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.24. Defensively, Oakland is allowing their opponents to average 79.7 ppg on 41.5% shooting. The Golden Grizzlies have a rebound margin of 2.9 and average 5.9 steals per game.
The Flames are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games however, just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Golden Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 home games.
UIC brought in Steve McClain from Indiana in hopes to energize the Flames program but it’s been a struggle for UIC as they rank near the bottom of college basketball in both scoring offense and defense. Oakland has struggled a bit over their last few games but this still should be one of the better teams in the Horizon League as they have one of the best players in the country in point-guard Kahlil Felder. This is a huge number for the Golden Grizzlies to cover here but after a couple of lack-luster performances at home, I think there are going to come out and take some of their frustrations out on the Flames and cover this large spread. Take Oakland to cover.
