The Furman Paladins pay a visit to SoCon rival the Mercer Bears on Thursday night.
The Furman Paladins have not been a household name in the SoCon but they have been playing reasonably well with a 9-9 record. The defense first Paladins allow less then 63 points and this end of the floor has been the catalyst in winning three of four capped off by a 77-57 rout of visiting Samford. Furman was up by 23 after 20 minutes and the Bulldogs were unable to make a comeback. Samford was limited to less then 41% and 1-10 on threes while Furman hit at 47% and were 10-21 on threes. Geoff Beans led the Paladins with 16 points and five ranks on 5-6 with Daniel Fowler tossing in 12 points on 4-4. Devin Sibley, Stephen Croone and Kendrec Ferrara each scored eleven points while Kris Acox chipping in with eight points six pulls.

The Mercer Bears are off to a solid 12-4 start behind okay scoring and a suffocating defense. The key will be what numbers the Bears put up in conference play. Mercer has won three of four after downing conference foe Citadel 91-80 as a 9.5 point road favorite. Mercer took a 12 point edge in to the locker room and traded baskets over the final 20 minutes. Mercer burned the nets at 52% but turned the ball over 16 times while the 39% shooting Bulldogs sank 16-43 long balls to keep from getting blown out. Stephon Jelks pumped in 24 points and hauled in 17 rebounds with Jordan Strawberry dropping 19 and handing out five assists. Demetre Rivers scored 17 points and Phillip Leonard added 14 points, eight boards and nine helpers while Jestin Lewis chipped in ten points.
Furman are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 vs. Southern and are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 overall. Mercer are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 vs. Southern and are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games.
