The James Madison Dukes will travel to Mathews Arena to take on the Northeastern Huskies this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The James Madison Dukes improved to 12-5 (2-2 CAA) on the season after defeating the Towson Tigers, 73-59, this past Saturday. James Madison was able to gain a 31-26 halftime lead and used an early run in the 2nd half to extend the lead to double digits and secure the win. James Madison shot 41.3% from the field and 41.2% (7-17) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Dukes held the Tigers to just 10.0% (2-10) shooting from three-point range and forced Towson into committing 11 turnovers. Leading the way for James Madison was Shakir Brown who had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. On the season, the Dukes have been led by Ron Curry (15.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.6 apg), Shakir Brown (12.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Yohanny Dalembert (7.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.1 bpg). The Northeastern Huskies had their three game winning streak snapped a dropped to 11-6 (3-1 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the William & Mary Tribe, 78-60, this past Saturday. Northeastern could never get in a good rhythm offensively in this one and couldn’t make much of a run in the 2nd half after falling behind 43-32 early in the second half. Northeastern shot just 33.3% from the field and 22.7% (5-22) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Huskies allowed the Tribe to shoot 57.9% from the field and was outrebounded by William & Mary by a 40-32 margin. Leading the way for Northeastern was Quincy Ford who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and an assist. On the season, the Huskies have been led by David Walker (17.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.6 spg), Quincy Ford (17.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.7 spg), and Zach Stahl (12.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.9 apg). Offensively, Northeastern is averaging 74.7 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field and 37.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Huskies average 8.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.13. Defensively, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 70.7 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of 2.5 and average 7.1 steals per game.
The Dukes are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 road games however, just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win. The Huskies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. CAA opponents and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
James Madison has a ton of talent on their team but at times can live or die on the three-pointer as shown in their losses against Elon and Charleston in which they shoot a combined 14-52 (26.9%). Northeastern has a big win on their resume with their upset on the road against the Miami Hurricanes and although they’ve struggled defensively on the road this season, the Huskies have been very solid on their home court sporting a 5-1 record. This should be a fun game to watch at both teams have some of the better players in the CAA in Ron Curry (James Madison) and Quincy Ford (Northeastern) however, I think I’m leaning towards Northeastern as they were able to defeat the Dukes both times last year including a 82-59 victory at Matthews Arena. Take Northeastern to cover.
