The UC Irvine Anteaters hope to stay perfect in the Big West when they visit the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.
The UC Irvine Anteaters were penciled in as one of the top guns in the Big West and have performed as such with wins in seven of eight including a 3-0 start in the conference after downing Long Beach State 58-54 on the road. A 37-25 second half run overcame a 21 point first half and eight point hole. The Anteaters sank shots at 32.8% but the 49ers could not take advantage with only 24.6% accuracy which was a difference of five field goals. Mamadou Ndiaye led a trio of double digit scorers with13 points on 4-9 shooting while Luke Nelson and Jaron Martin scored eleven points apiece. Eight players reached the scoring column but few shot the ball well.

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos got off to a slow start but seem to have found their grove the past several weeks. The Gauchos have won five of six after a 76-73 win at Cal Poly as a 3.5 point underdog. The Mustangs were limited to 42% from the floor and just 4-16 on threes. UCSB hit at 45% but an 11-19 effort on long balls made UCI a winner. The Gauchos rode the hot long range shooting of Gabe Vincent who poured in a game high 27 points and snagged five pulls on 7-11 on threes. Sam Beeler added 17 points and 12 rebounds on 8-9 from the floor with Michael Bryson netting 13 points. Eric Childress chipped in with seven points, eight boards and eight assists as Santa Barbara received scoring from six players.
UC Irvine are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 vs. Big West and the under is 30-12-1 in their last 43 vs. Big West while going 49-20-1 in their last 70 overall. The under is 9-1-2 in UCSB last 12 Saturday games and UCSB are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 home games. The under is 11-5-2 in the last 18 meetings. I think Santa Barbara can’t be overlooked but if Irvine is one of the best teams they need to show it here…
