The Southern Illinois Salukis take their act on the road to face the Drake Bulldogs.
The Southern Illinois Salukis have thrown their name in to the hat of contenders in the Missouri Valley with a 15-3 record and 4-1 conference mark. The Salukis bounced back from a bad loss at Wichita State to squeeze by Illinois State 81-78 on Tuesday as they came back from six down at the half. The Redbirds held a slight 46.5%-44% shooting edge with both teams even in most other areas except at the line where SIU sank six more free throws. Leo Vincent led the Salukis with 24 points on 6-7 from distance with Sean O’Brien adding 13 points, eight boards and six assists. Anthony Beane Jr. and Mike Rodriguez tossed in 13 points each while Tyler Smithpeters chipped in eleven points.

It appears that the Drake Bulldogs have been thrust in to the role of spoiler even though it’s early in the conference schedule. The Bulldogs have kicked off league play with an 0-5 record after an 84-65 loss at Evansville as a 16.5 point underdog. Drake trailed by 16 at the half and never recovered with the Purple Aces firing away at 53% with seven extra looks at the basket to total nine more field goals versus the 43% shooting Bulldogs. Reed Timmer paced the Drake offense with 19 points on 6-9 from the floor while Billy Wampler and Jacob Enevold Jensen netted 14 points apiece with Enevold grabbing a team high eight rebounds.
