The Long Beach State 49ers look for a road win at the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.
With a bit of good fortune the Long Beach State 49ers could be looking at a 2-0 start to the Big West Schedule but instead they are 0-2 with a pair of four point defeats. The 49ers suffered a 96-92, overtime loss at Cal Poly as they squandered a nine point lead at the half. LBSU connected at 47% but the 44% marksmanship of the Mustangs prevailed because of eleven more looks and three more baskets. Justin Bibbins kept the 49ers offense in the game with 21 points and five yanks while Nick Faust and Roschon Prince scored 15 points apiece. Travis Hammonds followed with 12 points while Gabe Levin added eleven points and seven boards.

This isn’t the same UC Santa Barbara we’ve seen a few short seasons ago and a 1-2 start to the Big West isn’t ideal although the year is still young. The Gauchos are coming off of a 61-52 defeat at the hands of visiting UC Irvine where the Anteaters erased a two point deficit with a 33-22 second half. The Gauchos struggled to 35% from the floor and were hurt by a 1-5 effort at the line with UCI hitting shots at 35% as well but a 19-1 advantage at the foul line was decisive. Gabe Vincent paced three DD scorers with 14 points and five yanks with Michael Bryson added 13 points, five yanks and five assists. Eric Childress netted 12 points with another five pulls and six helpers but the rest of the team managed just 13 points.
The over is 13-3 in Long Beach State last 16 overall and is 13-3 in their last 16 road games while the 49ers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games. Santa Barbara are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and the under is 13-6-3 in their last 22 vs. Big West. The numbers say Gauchos and it could be a last minute affair…
