UNC Greensboro vs. Chattanooga - 1/21/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The UNC Greensboro Spartans snapped their two game losing streak and improved to 6-12 (2-3 Southern) on the season after defeating the VMI Keydets, 85-68, this past Sunday. UNC Greensboro was outstanding in the 1st half, building a 43-25 halftime lead, and had little trouble cursing to the victory in the 2nd half. UNC Greensboro shot 58.0% from the field and 89.5% (17-19) form the FT line. The Spartans held the Keydets to 34.8% shooting and outrebounded VMI by a 38-28 margin. Leading the way for UNC Greensboro was Francis Alonso who had 24 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds. On the season, the Spartans have been led by RJ White (12.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg), Kayel Locke (11.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.7 apg), and Diante Baldwin (10.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.7 spg). Offensviely, UNC Greensboro is averaging 71.3 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field and 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Spartans average 8.7 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.10. Defensively, UNC Greensboro is allowing their opponents to average 73.8 ppg on 45.9% shooting. The Spartans have a rebound margin of -1.8 and a turnover margin of 1.2.

The Mocs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games. The Spartans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight up win.

The biggest question in the Chattanooga's offseason was if their talented roster would be able to adjust to a new coach (Matt McCall) and so far, the early results look outstanding as the Mocs have been solid on both sides of the ball. UNC Greensboro could easily be 4-1 in the Southern Conference after two tough losses to East Tennessee State and Western Carolina on the road. UNC Greensboro had trouble early in the season when their leading scorer in Tevon Saddler decided to leave the program however, has started to come together as a team led by Kayel Locke, and although Chattanooga is the clear-cut favorites to win the Southern Conference, I think UNC Greensboro will be able to cover at home with the points. Take UNC Greensboro to cover.
