The Loyola (CHI) Ramblers dropped to 8-11 (1-6 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Evansville Purple Aces, 74-66, this past Tuesday. Evansville had a 35-27 lead at halftime and extended this lead to a 60-41 advantage midway through the 2nd half in which the Ramblers couldn’t recover from. Loyola (CHI) shot 44.3% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 23.8% (5-21) of their three-pointers. The Ramblers allowed the Purple Aces to shoot 57.4% from the field and was outrebounded by Evansville by a 31-25 margin. Leading the way for Loyola (CHI) was Donte Ingram who had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal. On the season, the Ramblers have been led by Milton Doyle (11.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.2 apg), Montel James (10.7 ppg, 6.2 rpg), and Earl Peterson (9.7 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.4 apg). The Ramblers have a rebound margin of -3.7 and a turnover margin of 2.0.
The Bulldogs are 7-16-2 ATS in their last 25 road games and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Ramblers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
Both Drake and Loyola (CHI) have struggled in MVC play this year however, it’s a bit surprising to see Loyola (CHI) currently sitting at 1-5 as they looked as if they were ready to become one of the top MVC teams this season. Drake currently doesn’t have a great formula for winning games as they turnover the ball over, have a below average defense, and rely on the outside shooting to generate the majority of their points. Loyola (CHI) has been solid defensively as they rank 19th in the country in scoring defense however, they’ve been getting beaten on the boards and haven’t gotten the offensive production that was expected from Milton Doyle and Montel James. It’s hard to trust Loyola (CHI) after they lost to Bradley on their home court, however, I think the Ramblers defense will be able to generate some offense from Drake turnovers and that they cover this mid-range spread at home. Take Loyola (CHI) to cover.
