The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 7-10 (1-3 Big West) on the season after being defeated by the Long State Beach 49ers, 77-67, this past Wednesday. UC Santa Barbara struggled offensively in the 1st half and couldn’t mount much of a comeback after being down by a 36-23 margin at halftime. UC Santa Barbara shot 42.1% from the field and 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc. The Gauchos allowed the 49ers to shoot 50.0% from the field and outrebounded Long Beach State by a 38-28 margin. Leading the way for UC Santa Barbara was Michael Bryson who had 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Gauchos have been led by Michael Bryson (18.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.8 apg), Gabe Vincent (13.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.1 spg), and John Green (11.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.7 apg). Offensviely, UC Santa Barbara is averaging 69.5 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field and 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. The Gauchos average 7.2 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.16. Defensively, UC Santa Barbara is holding their opponents to an average of 70.1 ppg on 41.0% shooting. The Gauchos have a rebound margin of 1.8 and a turnover margin of -1.0.
The Matadors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. Big West opponents however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win. The Gauchos are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, just 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.
CS Northridge is a young team that has struggled to string together many wins this season as they rank 234th in the country in both scoring offense and defense and basically poise no threat offensively from beyond the arc. Saying the UC Santa Barbara season has been disappointing would be an understatement. The Gauchos did pick up a big non-conference win at Washington however, have struggled offensively in their four conference games, as they are averaging just 63 ppg. Even with their struggles, UC Santa Barbara is the better team in this one led by Michael Bryson, however, after coming off back to back double-digit losses at home, I think this might be just too many points for the Gauchos to cover. I’m probably going to stay away from this one but I had to go with a pick, I’d take CS Northridge and the points.
