The St. Joseph’s Hawks battle the La Salle Explorers in Big Five action on Sunday.
The Joseph’s Hawks are as hot as I can remember at 16-3 but they have to keep winning to stay in the running for the Atlantic Ten title. The Hawks have won four in a row after downing rival Penn 75-60. St. Joes jumped to a 16 point lead after 20 minutes and traded scores the rest of the way. The Quakers connected at 31.7%with the Hawks 43.8% adding up to eight more baskets which was decisive. DeAndre Bembry led the Hawks with 17 points and eight boards with Aaron Brown scoring 15. Isaiah Miles added 13 points and hauled in nine rebounds with Shevar Newkirk while Lamarr Kimble netted eight points and post six assists.

At 5-11 the La Salle Explorers are rebuilding and need help at both ends of the floor as they are being outscored 73-66. The Explorers are riding a three game skid following a 62-49 defeat at the hands of Temple as a ten point underdog on Wednesday. LAS hit at 34% and were hurt with a 6-27 performance from beyond the arc. The Owls sank half their looks which added up to eight more baskets. Cleon Roberts and Tony Washington paced the explorers with 16 points apiece with Washington hauling in 13 rebounds. Jordan Price added eleven points and six boards with only four players scoring.
St. Joes are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games overall. La Salle are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Atlantic 10 and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 vs. Atlantic 10 while the Explorers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The home team is 6-2-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings and the favorite is 11-4-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings. I’m tempted to just go with the red hot team here…
