The Saint Peter’s Peacocks look for a rare win versus the rival Manhattan Jaspers.
The Manhattan Jaspers are penciled in as a top four squad in the MAAC but they have been a bit up and down. Right now they are up with consecutive victories following a 78-71 win against a very good Monmouth. The Jaspers took a six point lead after 20 minutes and never gave it up as a 9.5 point home dog on Thursday. The Hawks were held to less then 45% shooting and gave the ball away 16 times while Manhattan connected at 47% with 10-25 effort on threes providing a cushion. Calvin Crawford gave the Jaspers offense some punch with 20 points and six pulls on 8-12 with Rich Williams adding 15 points and seven boards. RaShawn Stores was next in line with 14 points and six assists while Thomas Capuano tossed in eleven.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks haven’t been known for winning basketball but they are off to a 6-2 start in the MAAC which has certainly opened some eyes. The Peacocks saw their three game winning streak end in a 64-58 defeat at Iona as an eight point underdog. SPC trailed by 16 heading to the locker room before a spirited come back fell short. The Peacocks 31% shooting did them in and negated nine more looks which made the Gaels 42% accuracy a winning number. Antwon Portley and Quadir Welton scored 12 points apiece with Welton hauling in a game high 13 rebounds. Trevis Wyche added ten points, five yanks and seven boards while Chazz Patterson chipped in eight points and snagged eight boards.
The over is 7-2 in Manhattan last 9 Sunday games. Manhattan are 9-0 ATS in the last 9 meetings and the favorite is 11-2 ATS in the last 13 meetings. The Peacocks have struggled against Manhattan but I think this is their best chance at a win although I’m not a fan of the chalk…
